Auckland

Day one was spent in Auckland. This is New Zealand's biggest city with more people living here than in the entire South Island. The best part of the day was by far taking a shower. After such a long time traveling it was needed. We left the airport shown here about 4 hours after we arrived.
Our first orientation session consisted of learning safety and resources, determining our goals of the program, and even some kiwi lingo. (Torch=flashlight, chilly box=refrigerator) After that we had some time to roam around and a group of is went out to see the city.
This is the sky tower above. Unfortunately we didn't get to go inside.
This is a street performer downtown. Like any other large city there was a handful of homeless people and others playing music for change. It was an interesting experience because I'm not used to city life at all.
Above is a harbor we stumbled upon. There was a type of fair going on with the local police, fire department, and paramedics for anyone to see equipment ask questions and play games. We stopped and talked to a police man who was super fun and helpful! Here is some of the street art we came across.
Dinner was at a local restaurant. We were told the program coordinators didn't want to shock our system right away with strange food, so my choice was chicken pizza. It was delicious.
After dinner a bunch of us hung out and got to know eachother while playing cards and then went for a last walk around town. Here is the sky tower again next to the bungee jumping equipment.
I'm still not sure what time I feel like it is but I do know I need to be ready by 6:45 a.m. The next few days I will be in a hostle and don't know when I will be able to post next. So until next time...

CHEERS!
